Hi there!
I'm Biyo Thomas,
a Prime Minister's Research Fellow (PMRF)  @ IIT Delhi.

I have always been fascinated by the complex systems that make up our Earth's atmosphere, and I am passionate about using scientific research to better understand how these systems work.

My research interests lie mainly on the climatology of atmospheric Rossby Wave Breaking (RWB) over Indian sub-continent. Rossby waves are planetary scale waves that usually propagate over the higher latitude regions. Sometimes, these waves break similar to waves breaking at the shoreline. This results in air mass transport from high latitudes to low latitudes and vice-versa. The weather of the subtropical Indian region is frequently impacted by RWB triggered dynamical changes in the atmosphere. However, studies are elusive on the comprehensive understanding of RWB events over the Indian region.

My research broadly identifies the breaking activitites and study the associated physical mechanism and its variability. This study also helps to understand the sudden increment in the tropospheric ozone.

I believe that by gaining a deeper understanding of these processes, we can better understand the sudden extreme events such as extreme rainfall events and heat waves occurring especially over the northern Indian region.

As a PhD student, I am constantly seeking new opportunities to learn and grow, and I am committed to making a positive impact on the world through my work. In addition to my research, I am also passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. I believe that sharing knowledge and encouraging the next generation of scientists is essential for the future of our field.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, and I look forward to connecting with you soon!
